FRIDAY MAY 9 Reminders (POPS IN THE PARK)

As you know, Friday night (May 9th) is our spring concert at Harrison High School's " Pops in the Park" event.  The LMMS Jazz Ensemble, 7th Grade Combined Band, and 8th Grade Combined Bands will all perform. Students received notices last week regarding their report and performance times for the evening and they were to bring those home to you. Since Ms. Scott and I were out of town for the Disney trip, we haven't been able to answer any questions or field any calls. This email contains info regarding the night.
The concerts are at the field behind the LEFT SIDE of Harrison High School (band room side). All students must wear their LMMS BAND POLO, SHORTS, and SHOES. When students report for their concert, they must first take their case to the tennis courts, unpack their instrument, and bring it, their binder, and themselves to the performance area at the "report time" listed below. If you and your child are there early to enjoy the evening, they just need to leave their table and come to the tennis courts at that time. If you want to hold their case at your table, thats more than fine.
*PLEASE HAVE CASES LABELED WITH CHILD NAME! CASES LOOK ALIKE AND WE DONT WANT DURHAM AND LMMS STUDENTS TO GET MIXED UP!
TIMES                   Report Time            Perform time

Pops is the Park is almost here!

Remember – gates open at 5:00 and music will begin at 6:00. Tickets will be available at the will call table, but you can still by tickets at the gate. The concession stand will be selling combo meals and items ala carte if you didn't preorder. Please pick up all preordered meals by 7:30.

The entrance to the event is beside the band room. If you are looking at the school, the band room is around to the left. Parking is in the front parking lot, not on the field. You may drive back to drop off people or items, but please return to the front parking lot to park.

Even though the last forecast I saw was favorable, I wanted to give everyone an idea of how the rain plan will work so that things will run smoothly. In the unlikely event of rain, we will not begin music until 7 pm. Doors will be open at 6:15. Everyone will enter the front of the school and come down main street (or the other back main hall) turn and go down the 500 hallway in order to enter the small gym through the doors that are near the locker rooms. In the small gym we will have the will call tables and gate ticket sales. People will then exit into the gym lobby where we will have concessions and the cake raffle set up and enter the Presidential gym from the lobby. Students will exit the Presidential gym through the doors near the wrestling room and proceed down the wrestling hallway to get their instruments and to come back to the gym to perform. No one will be allowed to enter the gym lobby by the outside doors, just through the gyms.
thanks!

WINTER MUSIC CLINIC CHANGES!!!!!

Lost

Mountain

Middle School

Band

Jeremy Trimmer and Suzanne Scott- directors

CLINIC UPDATE!!

Parents- As you are aware; our annual “Winter Music Clinic” is this Saturday here at

Lost

Mountain

Middle School

. First, thank you for having this event on your home schedules from the beginning of the year as this is an event that is on the calendar that was given to you the first day of school in the handbook. We have very few absences and that is due to the combined planning efforts of everyone!

However, some things do slip through from time to time and there is a major traffic conflict on Saturday morning. Burnt

Hickory

Baptist

Church

is having their annual “Run for the Son” 10k and 5k road race Saturday as well. We were unaware they had the race planned and they were unaware that we had a school event at LMMS that day so we both planned our events. Luckily, some parents let us know about it early this week so that we could come up with some solutions to roads being closed in our area.

First, the race begins at 8:00am and the following roads are CLOSED on Saturday until 9:30am.  DUE WEST ROAD from Mars Hill to Acworth Due West, BURNT HICKORY ROAD from Acworth Due West to the Old Mountain Intersection, and OLD MOUNTAIN ROAD from the Burnt Hickory/Registry intersection to Due West Road by the church. The main issue is that

OLD MOUNTAIN RD.
is shut down (since that is the road Lost Mountain M.S. is on), but the church, police, and us have worked together to come up with a solution for the day.

The Winter Music Clinic time is being shifted back 30 minutes. The time is now 9:30am to 12:30pm. These 30 minutes will give us the opportunity to have the roads a little less crowded as more runners will be finished. Since the roads are still closed at 9:15am (when students need to start arriving at LMMS), we will have police assist parents in getting through the road block at the

OLD MOUNTAIN RD.
/ BURNT

HICKORY

INTERSECTION ONLY.  The only way into the school is through that blockade area! Police will let you through and you must enter the old entrance to the school only and drop off students in the bus lane entrance. You will then circle back around, go back up the hill to the old exit and take a left towards Due West. Once you get to Due West, you will be able to turn either left or right as you need to.

YOU CAN ONLY GET TO

OLD MOUNTAIN ROAD
AND LMMS AT THAT INTERSECTION BY BURNT

HICKORY

REGRISTRY SUBDIVISION!! YOU CAN ONLY USE THE OLD LMMS ENTRANCE AND YOU HAVE TO TURN LEFT OUT OF LMMS WHEN LEAVING!
This is per the police department and the church so we must follow this plan! J

* If you coming from west of Mars Hill, you should take Hadaway to Burnt

Hickory

and take a right to the intersection where the police are. Remember, do not take the part of Burnt

Hickory

that goes by Dominion HS as it is closed as well. We all realize that this means some of you will have to make a large circular detour to get to that exact intersection. Since we have only one way into the school, you must plan for 1) the extra time to get to
Old Mountain Road
since several roads are closed that you might normally take and 2) the traffic at that intersection. Please plan on leaving your homes earlier than you would normally need to be here at 9:20. We have hired these guest clinicians for the bands and we must still begin at 9:30am.

We will end the rehearsal at 12:30pm and students can be pick-up then. By this time, all roads will be re-opened and you can use your normal route to LMMS.

We all apologize for this issue and I want to thank the parents who have assisted us with information regarding the run. Also, Mr. Barry Cook from the church has been wonderful in arranging the logistics for this and communicating with the church staff, police, and myself. THANK YOU!!!!

**** One further note, tuxedo shirts need to be purchased at stores such as Joann’s Fabrics, Michael’s Arts and Crafts, or other formal shops in Kennesaw. MW TUX is no longer providing tuxedo shirt purchases on walk-ins and must pre-measure and pre-order.  Also consider K&G Formal/Menswear in

Marietta

if you are having difficulty finding a shirt.

A map was provided in class regarding the class and affected roads.  Thanks again for your understanding and flexibility. We look forward to seeing you a little before 9:30am on Saturday here at Lost Mountain M.S.

WEATHER ISSUE FOR ALL-STATE AUDITIONS

THE GMEA ALL-STATE AUDITIONS ARE STILL SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW IN PERRY!!! IF ANY CHANGES IN THE PLANS COME UP, I WILL POST ON HERE AND CALL FAMILIES TO NOTIFY YOU OF CHANGES.
