7th and 8th Symphonic Band Students & Parents:
The preperation for the UGA MIDFEST Performance is going great and we are excited about how the students are doing! PLease make sure of a few things!
1- please have your children on time for rehearsals on Thursday mornings! We begin right at 8 and we still have many students coming in late! Please arrive at 7:50 so that the students have time to unpack and warm-up before rehearsal begins! These rehearsals are our ONLY chance to put the 7th and 8th graders together so it is imperative that we get as much time together as possible so that the students are successful!
2- the uniform for all performances is as follows:
girls- black top with a 3/4 length sleeve and a rounded neck (NOT V), and either nice black slacks or an ankle length black skirt and black shoes. EVERYTHING MUST BE ALL BLACK!
boys- a bright white, long sleeved dress shirt, black long tie, nice black slacks (not jeans ), black socks, and black dress shoes. Students will be able to purchase the tie at the school store in a few weeks for $10.00. Also, the students will all wear a black vest that the band will provide for the performances.
PLEASE AQUIRE ALL OF THESE MATERIALS ASAP! :)

Greetings from Illinois! I am finishing up my last days here at the University of Illinois and will be returning to Atlanta/Kennesaw this weekend! I am very happy to have spent my last three summers here, but I am ready to be home....for sure!
As we approach this next week, a few reminders.
Ms. Scott and/or I will be calling some of you regarding a rehearsal for the sixth grade recruitment performance. It will be only 8th graders and we talked about this at the end of the last school year. Details are coming...
All returning students should 1)play your instruments some over the next week to get some of the dust off (it will make the first few weeks a lot less painful) and 2) get the materials needed for this year (reeds, sticks/mallets,valve oil, etc....)
All students need a black, 1/2 inch binder, and the bandbook. The bandbooks are the Standard of Excellence book 2 for 7th grade (blue book) and Standard of Excellece Book 3 (green book) for 8th grade. DONT THROW AWAY YOUR OLD BOOKS YET! YOU'LL NEED THEM THE BEGINNING TO THE SCHOOL YEAR!!!
Some students never picked up your school instrument over the summer. Therefore you have not practiced. If you want to pick up your instrument next week to practice some, that would be great. Email or call us.
Remember, we are going to be hitting the ground running as there are some concerts that sneak up quickly for a few groups. The 7th & 8th Grade Combined Symphonic Band (honor band) has a concert early in the school year as well as the December performance at The University of Georgia. We will begin the before-school rehearsals the 2nd week or 3rd week of the school year so please make attempts to get back in the groove of playing your instrument outside of the school day some....(PRACTICE!) :)
Incoming 6th graders, we cannot wait to get to know you more and to also get many more of you signed up for our great band program! We have a GREAT group already signed up and can't wait for more! You do not need your instruments the first day of school and we'll give you more info once we meet in August.
Okay...I have a final exam to study for. Take care and see you all soon!

Pops is the Park is almost here!
Remember – gates open at 5:00 and music will begin at 6:00. Tickets will be available at the will call table, but you can still by tickets at the gate. The concession stand will be selling combo meals and items ala carte if you didn't preorder. Please pick up all preordered meals by 7:30.
The entrance to the event is beside the band room. If you are looking at the school, the band room is around to the left. Parking is in the front parking lot, not on the field. You may drive back to drop off people or items, but please return to the front parking lot to park.

CLINIC UPDATE!!
Parents- As you are aware; our annual “Winter Music Clinic” is this Saturday here at Lost Mountain Middle School
However, some things do slip through from time to time and there is a major traffic conflict on Saturday morning. Burnt Hickory Baptist Church
First, the race begins at 8:00am and the following roads are CLOSED on Saturday until 9:30am. DUE WEST ROAD from Mars Hill to Acworth Due West, BURNT HICKORY ROAD from Acworth Due West to the Old Mountain Intersection, and OLD MOUNTAIN ROAD from the Burnt Hickory/Registry intersection to Due West Road by the church. The main issue is that
The Winter Music Clinic time is being shifted back 30 minutes. The time is now 9:30am to 12:30pm. These 30 minutes will give us the opportunity to have the roads a little less crowded as more runners will be finished. Since the roads are still closed at 9:15am (when students need to start arriving at LMMS), we will have police assist parents in getting through the road block at the HICKORY
YOU CAN ONLY GET TO HICKORY
* If you coming from west of Mars Hill, you should take Hadaway to Burnt Hickory Hickory
We will end the rehearsal at 12:30pm and students can be pick-up then. By this time, all roads will be re-opened and you can use your normal route to LMMS.
We all apologize for this issue and I want to thank the parents who have assisted us with information regarding the run. Also, Mr. Barry Cook from the church has been wonderful in arranging the logistics for this and communicating with the church staff, police, and myself. THANK YOU!!!!
**** One further note, tuxedo shirts need to be purchased at stores such as Joann’s Fabrics, Michael’s Arts and Crafts, or other formal shops in Kennesaw. MW TUX is no longer providing tuxedo shirt purchases on walk-ins and must pre-measure and pre-order. Also consider K&G Formal/Menswear in Marietta
A map was provided in class regarding the class and affected roads. Thanks again for your understanding and flexibility. We look forward to seeing you a little before 9:30am on Saturday here at Lost Mountain M.S.
