Welcome back to Lost Mountain MS!

Welcome back to Lost Mountain Middle School everyone! I hope that you all had a restful summer and that you are looking forward to a wonderful school year, especially in our band program!! 7th and 8th graders- I am so very proud of you for all that you accomplished last year in our classes and I look forward to watching you grow as young people and musicians this year! :)

We have lots of great concerts and activities planned for you this year and we'll go over the calendar soon in class. Please be sure to log into CHARMS via the password I gave you by Friday. Your first assignment is to complete to "Personal Info" section in CHARMS.

6th Graders- WELCOME TO LOST MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL!!! So far, I'm impressed by the 6th graders @ LMMS so I am hoping that ALL of you will be interested in joining our band program!! :) We have a great time and learn some wonderful skills as we become musicians! There are many wonderful things in life, but becoming a musician and having the ability to love, create, enjoy, evaluate, and live within the art of music is one of the best things in life. I hope that we get to share that together @ LMMS. :)

So, let's be honest. I am horrible @ updating this blog because I use the band website so frequently. However, I will try my best to be great at updating this blog and will do my best to use it as an instructional and communication tool like we do email and the band website. Welcome to my blog! I will be using this blog for weekly updates and information for woodwind & percussion students in the LMMS Band Program. I have generally used only the band's website, but have decided to use this as well. Please note that our band website is very useful and the address is www.lmmsbands.com .

6th grade:

- playing exam is set for Monday, Sept. 13th on line #12. Please work on playing the correct notes/rhythms with GOOD tone and tounging as we have done in class.
-Practice logs are currently only 30 minutes PER week. As always, extra credit is available.
-Please be sure students are practicing @ home on a regular basis!

7th & 8th Grade:
- Be sure that students are practicing on a regular basis. Practice logs are due each Friday and are set @ 150 minutes per week.
- All-State & All-District audition sign-up forms are due this Wednesday, Sept. 15th!

**8th graders going to Hillgrove HS- the band is currently looking for 8th grade students who would like to help out as "band aids" for the current marching band season. For more info, visit the LMMS band website and look in the 7th/8th grade info box for the link. **

What a great year!!!! Congrats to all band students on a terrific 2008-2009! I am so very proud of each of you and I hope that you each had a great experience this school year! Congrats and good luck to our 8th graders! I will always be so proud of you and I LOVED having the chance to be your teacher! Keep in touch and I will miss you all!

EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THIS INFO ALREADY,BUT HERE IS A LISTING OF THE LGPE PERFORMANCE DAYS AND TIMES FOR OUR FOUR 7th and 8th GRADE BANDS!

• LOST MOUNTAIN 8th GRADE CONCERT BAND (8-1 class)- MONDAY, MARCH 9th @ McEACHERN HIGH SCHOOL. PERFORMANCE @ 7:15pm

THE ANNUAL PRE- LGPE CONCERT is this THURSDAY, FEB. 26th here at LOST MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE THEATER! Each student should wear their formal concert attire that is listed below:

 

Girls-black top (3/4 sleeve or full sleeve), black pants, black socks, and black shoes.

Boys-White dress shirt(not tux shirt), black slacks, black socks, and black shoes.

 

7-2 band needs to arrive at 6:20pm and you perform at 7:00pm

7-1 band needs to arrive at 6:45pm and you perform at 7:30pm

8-1 Band needs to arrive at 7:30 pm and you perform at 8:00pm

8-2 band needs to arrive at 8:00pm and you perform at 8:30pm.

 

This concert is in the band handbook calendar and must be attended by the students. This is our "progress report" concert for our LGPE performances that we have in March. LGPE is basically the standardized exam for each band and we perform a series of musical selections for a panel of judges and clinicans. Letters and field trip permission forms were sent home last week so please ask your child about them if you have not seen them.

DISNEY MEETING FOR 8TH GRADE BAND & JAZZ BAND- MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10 @ 6PM (LMMS THEATER)

-REHEARSAL THURSDAY MORNING @ 8am (arrive @7:50)

-CLINIC AFTERSCHOOL- TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18th 5pm-8pm. (students will stay after-school and will be fed at 4:30. This clinic is mandatory and has been on the calendar. The clinic is with Mr. Chris Ferrell from Hillgrove HS and will conclude with a parent meeting @ 7:30pm)

NEXT TUESDAY (21st) IS FUNDRAISING DELIVERY DAY FOR 7th AND 8th GRADE AND WEDNESDAY (22nd) IS FUNDRAISING DELIVERY DAY FOR 6TH GRADE!!! YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR ORDERED ITEMS ON YOUR SPECIFIC DAY SOMETIME BETWEEN 5-8PM AT LMMS! PLEASE ENTER AT THE "CAR RIDER" ENTRANCE, STOP AT THE FLAGPOLE TO GIVE YOUR NAME, AND THEN FOLLOW THE DRIVE THROUGH PATH TO PICK UP YOUR ORDER IN THE BUS LANES AREA!!! PLEASE BE PATIENT AS THIS SOMETIMES CAN GET BACKED UP A LITTLE, BUT REST ASSURED THAT WE WILL MOVE QUICKLY AND EFFICENTLY!

7th and 8th Symphonic Band Students & Parents:

The preperation for the UGA MIDFEST Performance is going great and we are excited about how the students are doing! PLease make sure of a few things!

1- please have your children on time for rehearsals on Thursday mornings! We begin right at 8 and we still have many students coming in late! Please arrive at 7:50 so that the students have time to unpack and warm-up before rehearsal begins! These rehearsals are our ONLY chance to put the 7th and 8th graders together so it is imperative that we get as much time together as possible so that the students are successful!

2- the uniform for all performances is as follows:

girls- black top with a 3/4 length sleeve and a rounded neck (NOT V), and either nice black slacks or an ankle length black skirt and black shoes. EVERYTHING MUST BE ALL BLACK!

boys- a bright white, long sleeved dress shirt, black long tie, nice black slacks (not jeans ), black socks, and black dress shoes. Students will be able to purchase the tie at the school store in a few weeks for $10.00. Also, the students will all wear a black vest that the band will provide for the performances.

PLEASE AQUIRE ALL OF THESE MATERIALS ASAP! :)

3- In addition to rehearsals, important dates are:

Tuesday, Nov.18- clinic at LMMS from 5-8pm (REQUIRED!!!)

Monday, December 8- UGA Preview Concert at Hillgrove HS -arrive at 6:15pm; performance at 7pm

Friday, Dec. 12- PERFORMANCE AT UGA!!! 8:30pm!

6th graders:

Please make sure that you are practicing and turning in practice logs on Fridays! NO LATE LOGS ACCEPTED (unless absent!)

The 6th graders are off to a good start! Thanks for your hard work and effort over the first nine weeks! :)
